What exactly is a cavity and how do we get them? A cavity is a hole that develops from tooth decay. Tooth decay can develop from not taking care of the oral environment the way you should. Aside from not brushing and flossing like recommended, a large cause of tooth decay is diet.
Of course candy is not a good choice when keeping your teeth in great shape, but many people do not realize that a lot of added sugar is in the majority of foods!
A few tips to avoid cavities:
- Brush and floss everyday
- Avoid not only sugary foods but anything that is highly processed. Try to eat whole and clean.
- Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months
- Limit soda consumption, bicarbonate can erode your teeth.
At your checkup appointment, your dental hygienist will recommend use of an in office Fluoride Treatment to help protect the enamel against cavities.
